Upload a DXF drawing and VerifyCAD will review it against standard CAD good practice and your own standard if you set one up.
What VerifyCAD checks
Always checked (no setup needed)
These run on every drawing automatically:
- Content on reserved layers (Layer 0, Defpoints)
- Duplicate tags — for P&ID and schematic drawings, where tags must be unique
- Blank title block fields — drawing number, revision, date, drawn-by, checked-by (when a title block is found)
- Drawing number not matching the filename
- Degenerate geometry — zero-length lines, zero-size circles/arcs, collapsed polylines
- Empty text — text boxes with nothing in them
- Blank or default-named layers (e.g. “Layer1”, “New Layer”)
- Placeholder notes left in — TBC, TBD, XXX, ???, “confirm”
Checked against your standard (when you set one up)
Set up your standard (upload a template or enter it manually) to also check:
- Layer names against your approved list
- Approved blocks / symbols against your library
- Text styles, fonts and heights
- Tag formats against your approved patterns
- Line weights, linetypes and colours per layer (available, but off by default — real drawings often have deliberate per-entity overrides, so this is optional to avoid false alarms)
Nothing is changed in your drawing — VerifyCAD only flags, it never edits. BETA: we’re adding more checks over time.

Step 1 — Set up your standard
Upload your template drawing and we'll read your layers, text styles, linetypes and blocks automatically — or set your standard up manually using the form. Optional, but it gives you much deeper checks.

Upload your template (recommended)
Uploading a template DXF auto-fills the structural parts of your standard — layers, text styles, linetypes and blocks. You can review and adjust everything in the manual section below.
How to get a DXF from your template
Your template is probably a DWG or DWT — here’s how to export a DXF:
- AutoCAD: type SAVEAS, choose ‘AutoCAD DXF’ as the file type, and save.
- Other CAD software (DraftSight, BricsCAD, etc.): use File → Save As and choose DXF.
- No CAD software? The free ODA File Converter (opendesign.com) converts DWG to DXF on your computer.
Your files stay on your machine — you’re just saving a DXF copy to upload.
Set up or review manually
Build your standard from scratch, or adjust what the template extractor filled in.

Layers
The layers your drawings should use, and how each one should be set up.
Tag formats
How tags should be written. Give an example and build the pattern — we’ll tell you if they match.
Text styles
The text styles and heights your drawings should use.
Approved blocks
Block names that are allowed in your drawings. Anything else is reported.
Duplicate tags
How repeated tags should be treated in your drawings.
No two entities within the same drawing may share an identical tag. Cross-drawing duplicates (a tag reused across sheets in error) are flagged for manual review rather than auto-failed.

Step 2 — Choose your drawing type
So we apply the right checks — e.g. tag-uniqueness checks apply to P&ID and schematic drawings.
